Over the 25 years I have worked across the world, immersed in nature, there are some locations and some species that stand out more than others. Going through my field notebooks I found some sketches of a place that is burned deep in my memory, and a species that provided endless entertainment, drama and joy to observe.
There were many interactions that we observed that simply didn't fit into a conventional short natural history edit, and as I put pen to paper and started writing about them a story began to emerge - a story that was based in real-world, filmable events - that had all the drama of a Hollywood movie.
Employing a bit of traditional filmmaking magic from drama is all that was required to turn this from natural history into an epic and timeless drama.
